Returning a favor, Bronx lawyer Michael Zurilli travels to a small Kansas town to defend Jack Kopland. Desperate for the medication for his dying daughter, Kopland’s theft of the local pharmacy leads to the fatal heart attack of an elderly woman.  

The story becomes more about the grieving Zurilli - why he’s there, and his relationship with local sheriff - Bill Tilden.
